Hello! I'm Mrs. Cotter, the classroom teacher at the Hurley Nursery School. We offer a Toddler Time Program, a Three Year Old Program, a Four Year Old Program, and an Enrichment Class, and I am thrilled that I get to teach all of them!

A Little About Me:
I grew up in lower Westchester, and have moved a few times throughout the tri-state area. I have been a resident of Hurley since 2007, where I live with my husband and two children. I have been teaching at the Hurley Nursery School since 2013. Before that I worked in schools since 1992 (with short breaks when I had my children), teaching most every grade from Pre-Kindergarten to Eighth Grade. I also worked for a few years in Early Childhood with children as young as one. I had wanted to be a teacher since I was in the First Grade and am thrilled that I was able to make that happen.

Education:
I currently have two Undergraduate Degrees (one in Early Childhood Education and one in Elementary Education), as well as Masters Degrees in Reading and Special Education with a minor in Learning Disabilities. In addition, I have continued to further my studies through a variety of classes.

Community:
Community is very important to me. I feel very fortunate to be a part of our Hurley Nursery School community, and I have been lucky to meet so many wonderful people in our local community. Over the years I have participated in and served on the board of the PTO at my children’s elementary school, volunteered in my children’s schools, coached many seasons of Rec Soccer, and supported and/or helped fundraise for various sports teams/organizations that my children have been a part of. I have led food collections, “adopted” and sponsored families in need, and organized a variety of programs that foster healthy habits while raising money for worthy causes. In addition: I am a member of our local Elks Lodge, on the board at Christmas Wishes, a local charitable children's organization, and have been a Captain of & participated in many relay teams over the years for the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life; an organization that helped me when I fought my own battle with Cancer. In fact, I am very proud that we have had multiple Hurley Nursery School Kid’s Walk Teams and hope to have one again in the future!

My name is Ms. Hess and I am the teaching assistant at the Hurley Nursery School. I have held this position since the start of the 2017-2018 school year. I am very familiar with Hurley Nursery School as 2 of my children attended school here beginning in 2012. Since that time, I have substituted off and on over the years and when a permanent position became available at the end of the 2016-2017 school year I jumped at the opportunity to be in the classroom.

I grew up in upstate New York and relocated to the Hudson Valley in 2004, settling in Hurley in 2008 to raise my family. All three of my children attend/have attended the Kingston City Schools. I attended college at SUNY Plattsburgh where I studied Child Development with a concentration in Child Family Services.

I have spent a lot of time in the community volunteering at my children’s schools and serving on the board of the school PTA. Currently I am serving as an active member on the Friends of the Hurley Library board. I really enjoy being a member of the Hurley Nursery School team and look forward to meeting all the new students that come to our school.
